As snow showers Wednesday added another layer of white to Borderland, John Arnold placed signs around Ranier to show a new snowmobile trail route.

Arnold, who serves as groomer operator for the International Voyageurs Snowmobile Club, said the new route takes snowmobiles on the north side of the Canadian National Railway tracks.

Club officials urge snowmobilers to follow the speed limit through the city and to stick to the signed trail.

Arnold reminded snowmobilers to meet at 9 a.m. Saturday at Rainy Lake One Stop, Highway 11 east, for the club’s annual trail clearing day, after which he said trails will be safer and smoother.

While the trails are legally open, he said riding now, with the light snow cover and uncleared trail, can lead to costly sled repairs and possible injuries.
