Gloucester teachers’ strike ends while negotiations persist in Beverly, Marblehead
After being out of the classroom for more than two weeks, students in Gloucester, one of the three North Shore towns hit with a teachers’ strike, will return to school on Monday.
The Gloucester School Committee reached a contract agreement Friday with the Union of Gloucester Educators, ending a strike that began Nov. 8.
“This agreement accomplishes our primary goals from the start of these negotiations – a significant and necessary adjustment in paraprofessional wages, a meaningful increase to teacher pay, and expanded benefits including new paid parental leave,” School Committee Chairwoman Kathy Clancy said in a statement.
“These contracts reflect our deep commitment, appreciation and respect for educators and show a great investment in public education in Gloucester,” Clancy added. “We look forward to working together to best serve the students of Gloucester.”
Strikes are continuing in Beverly and Marblehead.
