A dog attack left one Roxbury woman dead, another resident of the home severely injured and two Boston Police officers who rendered the victims aid also injured. Police killed the animal at the scene.

Police responded to the Dennison Street home at about 4:30 p.m. Monday where they found two adult victims inside, one woman and one man.

“At that time they immediately rendered first aid to both victims. While rendering aid at that time, two of the responding officers were attacked by the same dog and one of the officers discharged their firearm, striking the dog,” Boston Police Deputy Superintendent Paul McLaughlin of investigative services told reporters near the scene later that evening. He said investigators believe the two original victims were the owners of the dog.

McLaughlin said that all four victims, including the responding officers, were rushed to area hospitals. Animal control took the dead dog as well as three additional dogs from the home.

The female victim would later die at the hospital, according to a Tuesday morning update from a police spokesman. Police in the afternoon identified her as Jeriline McGinnis, 73.

The case is being jointly investigated by homicide detectives and a unit assigned to investigate police gunshots, McLaughlin said.
