Heavy rains and gusting winds overnight Sunday should clear the region before the morning commute begins and leave dry, seasonable weather behind for the work week ahead, according to the National Weather Service.

As much as two inches of rain and wind at times gusting over 40 mph is forecast overnight into Monday and should move on before 6 a.m., according to NWS Meteorologist Rob Megnia, who said the days that follow may be “blustery” at times, but no more so than they should be this time of the year.

“The only active period of weather we’ll have is tonight, overnight,” Megnia told the Herald Sunday. “Mainly after midnight, and it should be wrapping up before the morning commute.”

According to weather service forecasting it could be 52 degrees or more in Boston well before the sun comes up over mostly cloudy skies on Monday, but temperatures will gradually cool back into the middle 40s as the day moves toward evening.

Clouds should mostly clear overnight, when the temperature will dip back toward freezing and winds overnight could reach 15 mph.

The sun will likely come out on Tuesday, according to Megnia, though it probably won’t feel much like it with 15 mph winds and temperatures in the upper 30s expected. Sub-freezing temperatures overnight could leave frost on car windows by Wednesday morning.

More wind and sun Wednesday bring similar conditions, with highs only in the middle 30s and 15 mph breezes expected. Temperatures again return to sub-freezing overnight, with lows around 30.

Slightly warmer temperatures are expected Thursday under sunny skies, with temperatures in the mid-40s and a calmer breeze than preceding days. The mercury should remain above the freezing mark overnight, though the wind picks up slightly, according to NWS.

More of the same is expected on Friday, with partly sunny skies and high temperatures in the mid to upper 40s. More clouds could roll in by Friday evening, though temperatures should stay in the 40s overnight. There is a 50% chance of precipitation overnight Friday, according to the weather service.

“To sum up: it’s dry and sunny but kind of cold for most of the week,” Megnia said. “Pretty seasonable, a couple of cold ones in there, but nothing out of the ordinary for mid-to-late November or the start of December.”

A 30% chance of rain persists through Saturday, according to the NWS, but other than that — and as of now — it should be a mostly sunny weekend.
