North St. Paul-Maplewood-Oakdale school board election: Kita Yang, Nancy Livingston, Katie Swor and Charlotte Nitardy elected

Kita Yang, Nancy Livingston, Katie Swor and Charlotte (Char) Nitardy won the race for District 622 school board members in Tuesday’s election, Nov. 5, 2024.

Yang received 22% of the vote, Livingston received 19%, Swor 17% and Nitardy 15%.

Before the election Yang served as a school board member and board chair. She has also served on the AMSD Executive/Legislative Committee and has children attending school in the North St. Paul-Maplewood-Oakdale district.

“I have always leaned on collaboration and learning from others in making an effective and well-informed decision/opinion,” Yang said to the Pioneer Press.

Yang’s priorities include school safety, building strong relationships and prioritizing academic achievement.

Livingston worked previously as a Minnesota Senate education committee administrator, Century College administrator and Pioneer Press reporter.

“Those experiences have given me a deep knowledge of public education and the important role of school boards,” Livingston said to the Pioneer Press.

Academic achievement, school safety, spending tax dollars wisely and supporting students, staff and teachers are Livingston’s top priorities.

Swor has been a North St. Paul resident for 12 years, has a child in the district and is on the American Indian Parent Advisory Committee.

“I’ll show up and do the work it takes to be a productive contributing board member to this amazing community,” Swor said to the Pioneer Press.

Her priorities are to close the achievement gap, ensure students’ safety and prepare students for a thriving post-secondary life.

Nitardy is a 30-year resident of the district and has had three children graduated from the district.

“I understand why we are where we are and what we need to do to move forward,” Nitardy said to the Pioneer Press.

Academic achievement, diversity, equity and inclusion, school safety and increasing the teacher pipeline are her top priorities.
