Patriots adding O-line help from Vikings after protection issues in latest loss

The Patriots are signing guard Tyrese Robinson off waivers from the Vikings, according to a source.

This is the third time this season that the Patriots are signing an offensive lineman off of another team’s practice squad.

Robinson, 25, went undrafted out of Oklahoma in 2022. He’s spent time with the Commanders, Eagles and Vikings.

The Patriots previously signed center Ben Brown off of the Raiders’ practice squad and center Lecitus Smith off of the Packers’ practice squad.

Robinson joins Brown, Smith, Demontrey Jacobs, Michael Jordan, Vederian Lowe, Mike Onwenu, Layden Robinson, Sidy Sow and Zachary Thomas on the Patriots’ offensive line. The Patriots do need to make a corresponding roster move to add Tyrese Robinson, however.

The new addition played left guard and right guard in the preseason over the last two summers. At 6-foot-3, 317 pounds, he started at right guard and right tackle in college.

The Patriots started Lowe, Jordan, Brown, Layden Robinson and Onwenu in Sunday’s loss to the Titans. Issues were so prevalent in the middle of the line that Robinson was benched, Onwenu slid from right tackle to right guard and Jacobs was brought off the bench.

The offensive line struggled to open lanes in the running game and to protect rookie quarterback Drake Maye.

Tyrese Robinson, Brown, Smith, Jacobs and Thomas have all been added to the Patriots’ roster since training camp. Jacobs and Thomas were claimed off waivers in late August.

ESPN’s MIke Reiss first reported the addition of Robinson.
