State soccer roundup: Wayzata girls win Class 3A title

Wayzata gained vengeance for its title game loss a year ago, downing Lake Conference rival and defending state champion Edina for the Class 3A girls soccer title on Friday morning at U.S. Bank Stadium.

The title is Wayzata’s eighth overall but first since 2012. In between the championships were six state tournament trips, including a pair of runner-up finishes.

The Trojans finished the job this time around.

The offense came early and often, with Alex Veillieux scoring in the third minute, and senior forward Tenley Senden adding a second tally just nine minutes later. That was her first goal of the game, with her second coming in the 28th minute to make it 3-0 Wayzata.

The loss also avenged a 2-1 loss in August to Edina, the Trojans’ only defeat of the season.

Class 2A boys

Holy Angels 3, Totino-Grace 1: Stars’ senior defender Jackson Hegwood recorded a goal and an assist in the first half to lift the top-seeded Stars (20-1-0) to their second state title in six seasons.

Hegwood’s goal came in the fourth minute, and Holy Angels led 3-0 early in the second half. Jabari Kibisu scored Totino-Grace’s lone goal in the 76th minute.
