Wild make first big wave of cuts ahead of fourth preseason game
The Wild cut 11 players from their training camp roster on Sunday, starting a purge that could continue after tonight’s preseason game against Dallas at Xcel Energy Center.
Minnesota made its first waiver moves, placing defensemen Joseph Cecconi and Cameron Crotty, and forward Adam Raska, on waivers for the purpose of assigning them to AHL Iowa, which begins camp Monday in Des Moines.
The team also assigned a handful of signed prospects to Iowa: forwards Hunter Haight, Kyle Masters, Pavel Novak and Sammy Walker, and defenseman Jack Peart. Junior blue line prospect Stevie Leskovar was assigned to Brampton in the OHL.
Forward Ryan Sandelin and goaltender William Rousseau were released from their professional tryouts. They will report to Iowa Wild training camp.
Several players still trying to make the NHL roster out of camp, and others who will likely be season call-ups as needed, are scheduled to play in the team’s fourth preseason game this evening. They include: forwards Liam Ohgren, Ben Jones, Brendan Gaunce, Travis Boyd and Riley Heidt.
If Heidt, 19, doesn’t make the team out of camp, he will have to be reassigned to Prince Albert of the WHL.
