Grizzlies’ Marcus Smart to miss first game vs. Celtics due to foot injury
The Celtics will have to wait until later in the season to face Marcus Smart for the first time.
Smart is expected to miss 3-5 weeks due to a left foot sprain, according to the Grizzlies, meaning the former Celtics guard will miss Sunday’s matchup in Memphis against his old team.
The next time the Celtics will face Smart’s Grizzlies is on Feb. 4 at TD Garden, a return that is certain to be emotional after the point guard was traded to Memphis this summer in the Kristaps Porzingis deal, which ended Smart’s nine-year run in Boston.
Smart injured his foot and had to be helped off the court in Tuesday’s game against the Lakers after he landed awkwardly on Austin Reaves’ foot. The guard is averaging 12.5 points and five assists per game for the 2-9 Grizzlies in his first season in Memphis.
