The Yuan Pro accounts for a bit less than 50% of BYD sales in August.

For the second time in a row, new vehicle sales in Ecuador reach the highest ever recorded monthly volume at 15,281 units, up 48.9% year-on-year. The year-to-date tally is now up 40.4% to a record 108,278 units, the first time the 8-month total crosses the 100,000 mark. Kia (+45.1%) easily remains the most popular carmaker in the country with 16.5% share, distancing Chevrolet (+33.1%) at 10.6%. The surprise of the month is delivered by BYD (+244.1%) more than tripling its sales year-on-year and back up 16 spots on July to #3 with 5.6% share, believed to be records. Chery (+54.2%) is up three ranks to #4 ahead of Toyota (+40.4%) and GWM (+55%). Changan (+210.2%), MG (+176.3%) and Jetour (+86.5%) stand out below.

Over in the models charts, Kia places the Soluto (+17.8%) at #1 with 6% share and the Sonet (+92.1%) at 4.1% just above the Chevrolet Groove (+45%). The BYD Yuan Pro is up from outside the July Top 10 directly into 4th place, also cracking the YTD Top 10 at #7. The Chevrolet D-Max (-34.4%), in total freefall year-on-year, drops to #5 for the month and #4 YTD. Excellent performances below by the GWM Wingle (+130.2%) and Toyota Hilux (+68.1%).
