The BMW iX3 climbs onto the Norwegian podium in August.

13,451 new cars hit Norwegian roads in August, down -3.3% year-on-year. This leads to a year-to-date tally down -2.6% to 96,463. BEV sales are down -1.5% to 13,274 and a new record 98.7% share vs. 96.9% a year ago. The previous best was 98.4% last March. Year-to-date, BEVs are up 0.8% to 94,314 and 97.8% share vs. 94.5% over the same period in 2025. Meanwhile PHEVs are down -75.8% to 51 units, HEVs off -38.5% to 32, diesel down -39.9% to 64 and petrol down -6.2% to 30.

Volkswagen (-18.2%) advances to the #1 spot in the brands ranking this month, toppling a surging Toyota (+174.9%). Still by far #1 year-to-date with 15.6% share, Tesla (-79.2%) implodes to #7 with 4.7% share after losing -97.1% last month. BMW (+32.6%) is up two spots on July to #3, Volvo (+4.6%) stays at #4 and Xpeng (+248.7%) is down two ranks to a still fantastic 5th place with 5.9% share. BYD (+60.7%) jumps to #6 with Audi (+1%) the only additional Top 10 member in positive.

Over in the brands charts, the VW ID.4 (+8.2%) snaps the top spot for the second time this year after April with 5.3% share vs. 4% so far in 2026. It ranks #4 year-to-date. The Toyota bZ4X (+115%) is down one rank on July to #2, a ranking it also holds year-to-date. The traditional leader, the Tesla Model Y, is off -89.7% to #19 and 1.9% share. Meanwhile the BMW iX3 breaks into the podium for the first time at #3, followed by the Volvo EX30 (+23.4%) and the new Toyota Urban Cruiser.
