Genesis is preparing to make a bold statement with its upcoming GV90 flagship SUV, and one of the most dramatic details from the Neolun concept is apparently heading to production. According to CAR, Genesis Europe managing director Peter Kronschnabl confirmed that the GV90 will feature coach doors, giving the brand’s largest SUV a design flourish normally associated with ultra-luxury names. For Genesis, this is exactly the kind of move that helps separate the GV90 from more familiar rivals like the Mercedes-Benz GLS, Lucid Gravity, and other high-end electric SUVs.

The coach-door setup means the rear doors are hinged at the back, opening opposite the front doors for a wider, more theatrical entry into the cabin. When Genesis previewed the idea on the 2024 Neolun concept, many assumed it was one of those concept-car details that would disappear before production. Instead, Genesis appears ready to carry it forward, which says a lot about how serious the brand is about pushing the GV90 into true flagship territory rather than simply building a larger version of the GV80.

Kronschnabl told CAR that “the only other brand with coach doors is Rolls-Royce,” a statement that clearly frames how Genesis wants people to think about this vehicle. While modern coach doors still need to satisfy today’s structural and safety requirements, likely meaning some form of reinforced body architecture, the visual effect remains powerful. Recent prototype sightings have suggested Genesis may offer more than one door configuration, but the coach-door version is the one that will get people talking.

The GV90 is expected to launch as a fully electric SUV and share some underlying hardware with Hyundai Motor Group relatives such as the Hyundai Ioniq 9 and Kia EV9, though Genesis should take the luxury, technology, and design execution much further.
