2027 Subaru Getaway Brings Three Rows, 420 HP, and Real Family EV Appeal
Subaru is stepping deeper into the EV space with something that feels a lot more aligned with what many American families actually want. The all-new 2027 Subaru Getaway is a three-row electric SUV with standard all-wheel drive, more than 300 miles of expected range in long-range form, and enough power to make it feel far more exciting than the average family hauler. For a brand that has built so much of its reputation on practical adventure vehicles, this looks like a meaningful next move.
What stands out right away is that Subaru did not phone in the performance side of the equation. Every Getaway comes with a dual-motor setup, one motor at each axle, producing a stout 420 horsepower. That gives the SUV a claimed 0 to 60 mph run in under five seconds, which is seriously quick for something designed to carry up to seven people. Add in 8.3 inches of ground clearance and a 3,500-pound towing capacity, and the Getaway starts to sound like an EV that still understands Subaru buyers expect more than just school-run duty.
The battery story is also important here. The long-range version arrives first and uses a 95.8-kWh battery pack, with 150-kW fast charging that can take the charge level from 10 to 80 percent in about 30 minutes. Subaru is also fitting the Getaway with the North American Charging Standard, which means access to Tesla’s broad Supercharger network. That alone could be a major selling point for buyers who like the idea of an electric SUV but still worry about charging convenience on longer trips.
Of course, the Getaway is not arriving in a vacuum. Its close relationship to Toyota’s new Highlander EV is pretty obvious, both in the packaging and in the overall look. Subaru and Toyota have been collaborating on EV development for a while now, so none of that is surprising. Still, Subaru has worked to give the Getaway its own identity with signature lighting, an illuminated Subaru badge up front and out back, standard roof rails, and available 19- or 20-inch wheels. It may share a lot under the skin, but Subaru clearly wants this one to feel like it belongs in its own showroom.
Inside, the mission is clear: keep families comfortable and connected. The cabin gets a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a 14.0-inch infotainment display, along with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Heated seats come standard, while upper trims bring extras like ventilated seats, second-row heating, and a heated steering wheel. Subaru also made sure the third row is not treated like an afterthought, with dedicated vents, USB-C charging in every row, and three-zone climate control that should make road trips a little less stressful for everyone onboard.
The 2027 Subaru Getaway is expected to go on sale in late 2026, with a standard-range model following in the first half of 2027 using a 77.0-kWh battery. Pricing has not been announced yet, but expectations place it somewhere in the mid-to-upper $40,000 range. If Subaru can keep it competitive, the Getaway could land in a sweet spot for shoppers who want three rows, strong performance, useful range, and the confidence of standard AWD in one modern package. More importantly, it gives Subaru something it has needed in the EV era: a family-focused electric SUV that actually feels on brand.
