Boston Weather: Warmer spring temperatures, ‘very mild’ week incoming

Boston is set to see the last piles of melting snow dwindle in the coming week, with unseasonably warm temperatures and mild weather incoming, according to National Weather Service forecasts.

“Just looks as expected, really mild this week,” said NWS meteorologist Hayden Frank. “Temperatures the next couple days will be into the 60s. Along the immediate east coast parts of Boston, they may be held at times into the 50s with a sea breeze. But just a few miles inland, it’s going to be into the 60s. It’s just basically a really mild and dry start to the week.”

The week is expected to kick off Monday with sunny skies and a high near 60 degrees, forecasts show. A light southwest wind may blow through up to 10 mph through the morning, according to the weather service, and the nighttime low is expected to drop to around 40 degrees.

Tuesday is forecasted to be similar, with a high up into the low 60s and sunny weather, according to NWS.

“For Boston, the average high is right now is in the mid 40s,” said Frank. “Right now, it doesn’t look like we’re breaking any records. But I’d say 10 to 20 degrees above normal.”

Wednesday is expected to remain warm, with a high in the upper 50s, forecasts show, but see a slight chance of rain in the afternoon through the night. The chances of rain grow Thursday, and gusty winds may blow up to 28 mph.

Temperatures are likely to remain warm during the day, though forecasts show possible snow showers early Thursday night as the low drops back below freezing to the upper 20s.

“It looks like a turn back to colder weather by the end of the week,” said Frank. … “By Friday, that’s when we turn a bit cooler into the weekend. But no significant storms this week, maybe a few showers Wednesday night into Thursday with a cold front.”

Friday into the weekend is expected to see cooler highs in the upper 40s, and preliminary light chances of precipitation, NWS forecasts.

Franks said the week may be the end of “any long cold” but noted winter weather may still make a comeback.

“Can we get another winter storm or two? Sure,” Frank said. “We’re still in the (second) week of March, so yeah, plenty of time left. It’s snowed in April before.”
