Boston Police Blotter: Trespassing man calls Brighton resident a ‘monkey,’ splatters cop with liquid

Boston Police arrested a 54-year-old man who they said threw a bottle at officers when they asked him to leave a property after calling the resident a “monkey.”

Evginiy Dolzhenkov, of Boston according to the police report and of Sharon according to the police blotter, allegedly gained entrance to the lobby of an apartment building in the 100 block of Brighton Avenue on Wednesday and was asked to leave by a resident since he didn’t live there. Instead of complying, he allegedly called the resident a “monkey” and made “gestures to his crotch region with his hands,” according to the police report.

When police arrived at around 3:20 p.m. to remove him, Dolzhenkov allegedly became “argumentative” with them and “spoke incoherently,” according to the police report. After officers told him to leave again, Dozhenkov allegedly threw an uncapped bottle containing an unknown liquid at one of them, with the liquid splattering the officer’s face, chest and arms.

For that, Dolzhenkov, who has a previous conviction for disorderly conduct, was handcuffed and booked at the Nashua Street Jail. He is charged with assault and battery on a police officer, trespassing, and disorderly conduct — subsequent offense.

Man deemed incompetent to stand trial for purposely running down man and dog

A Boston man previously diagnosed with schizophrenia has been deemed “presently incompetent” to stand trial on charges that he purposely ran over a major donor to Boston’s Museum of Fine Arts and the man’s dog as they were out on a morning walk.

William Haney, 42, was arraigned Jan. 5 on charges of murder and cruelty to an animal after police say he specifically targeted 79-year-old John Axelrod and Axelrod’s dog on Jan. 3 on the Commonwealth Avenue Mall.

Both Axelrod and the dog were pronounced dead at the scene. On Friday, prosecutors tacked on two more charges of reckless operation of a motor vehicle and leaving the scene of personal injury and death.

Boston Municipal Court Judge James Stanton ordered Haney to be held without bail for an additional 60 days for the new charges and sent him back to Bridgewater State Hospital for examination for competency to stand trial in the future.

The officer driving the cruiser was not identified by the DA, who says the incident is under investigation.
