Ticker: Ram revives $100K TRX V-8 truck; Cupcake ATMs no more

Ram is reviving its Hemi V-8-powered TRX off-roading pickup amid looser federal emissions regulations and as parent company Stellantis NV charts a sales turnaround in the truck-loving United States.

The automaker said that the 2027 Ram 1500 SRT TRX will be available in the second half of this year and cost $102,590 including destination charge.

Ram offered the high-powered sport truck from the 2021 to 2024 model years but canceled it as Stellantis shifted away from V-8s and toward more fuel-efficient offerings and electric vehicles. It then unveiled a six-cylinder version, called the RHO, which will remain available.

It offers a 6.2-liter supercharged Hemi V-8 that puts out 777 horsepower and 680 pound-feet of torque, delivering a 0-60 mph time of 3.5 seconds and a top speed of 118 mph.

“The TRX is back from the dead,” Ram CEO Tim Kuniskis said in a launch video for the sport truck, adding it’s more powerful than the last generation.

Cupcake ATMs no more

Sprinkles Cupcakes, a company famous for selling sweet treats in vending machines known as “cupcake ATMs,” has shut down after 20 years of operation around the United States, according to its former owner.

“Even though I sold the company over a decade ago, I still have such a personal connection to it, and this isn’t how I thought the story would go,” said Candace Nelson, who started the company after she lost her job in 2005.

Nelson started Sprinkles Cupcakes in her own kitchen, and the first location was in a small Beverly Hills storefront that had previously been a sandwich shop. The brand would go on to ascend to national fame, and fans took to social media following the company’s announcement to lament the closure.
