Lucas: Looking back on 2025
Here are some observations that caught my attention in 2025.
Why is Joanna Lydgate, Gov Maura Healey’s unmarried live in companion, referred to as the First Lady?
If the next governor is a gay man, will his boyfriend be referred to as the First Man, First Gentleman, First Guy or First Dude?
If you want a new state seal and flag, it should be one that replaces the Native American and his bow and arrow with a women holding a can of mace.
We are ruled by women—Boston Mayor Michelle Wu, Gov. Maura Healey, Lt. Gov. Kim Driscoll, Attorney General Andrea Campbell, state Treasurer Deborah Goldberg, and state Auditor Diana DiZglio.
There is also Senate President Karen Spilka, U.S. Attorney Leah Foley and Kimberly Budd, chief justice of the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court.
The Commonwealth of Massachusetts could be known as the Motherland of Massachusetts.
The Massachusetts Miracle has been replaced by the Massachusetts Matriarchy.
If the MBTA turnaround is such a success, why are so many buses empty?
I don’t know the difference between a burrito and a taco.
If motorcycle riders are such rugged individualists, why do they ride in packs?
And don’t get me started on those huge, road hogging pickup trucks that don’t pick up anything. Even their four-door crew cabins are empty, save the driver.
Elizabeth Warren should burn all her clothes.
Maura Healey is not much of a fashionista either.
Melania makes both look like bag ladies.
Maura Healey is much better at letting killers out of prison than he is putting them in. Her Parole Board released 39 of them. Bring back Baker?
Will Eddie Markey move back to Massachusetts if he loses?
Doesn’t it appear that Seth Moulton, running against Markey, is going against a befuddled old uncle?
And why does Moulton always look like somebody just stole his car?
I have, like Moulton, been in combat. Where? In the parking lot at Market Basket.
Will Hunter Biden ever go away?
Australia has strict gun control. A shooter can legally only own six guns.
Did you notice how activist Rhode Island Attorney General Peter Neronha took control of the investigation and press briefing following the deadly shooting at Brown University?
Did you also notice how Massachusetts Attorney General Andrea Campbell, the state’s “chief law enforcement officer,” was MIA?
She was nowhere to be found during the investigation or press briefing on the killing of MIT Professor Nuno F.G. Loureiro of Brookline by the same shooter.
That Loureiro briefing was conducted by U.S Attorney Leah Foley. Maybe she should be attorney general.
Perhaps Campbell was too busy suing Donald Trump. She has only sued Trump 45 times compared to the 100 times Healey sued Trump when she was attorney general.
No wonder there are no federal funds to replace the two functionally obsolete Cape Cod bridges.
If Mayor Michelle Wu took on Boston traffic the way she “takes on” Trump, things would be swell.
We need a list of professors, politicians, pundits and people not mentioned in the Epstein files.
No member of the Massachusetts Legislature was arrested over the long weekend. No reporters either.
The real reason Trump hates Venezuelan dictator Nicola Maduro is that Maduro has more hair than he does. No weaves or comb overs for this guy.
Political dialogue descended to a new low in 2025. In 2016 Democrat presidential candidate Hillary Clinton called conservative Trump supporters “deplorables.”
In 2025, Trump called leftist Democrats and Kamala Harris supporters “scum.”
Still, if Trump can halt fighting between Thailand and Cambodia, let alone Armenia and Azerbaijan, maybe he can do the same here in 2026.
Aren’t we all Americans? Yeah, but don’t count on it.
