One killed. 3 injured in Middleboro fire
A condo fire killed one person and sent three others to the hospital, including a firefighter, in Middleboro Sunday.
Middleboro Fire Chief Owen Thompson said the department responded to a structure fire at 172 Ashley Lane around 9:52 a.m.
Fire crews saw heavy smoke and flames on the first and second floors of an attached condominium in both the front and back of the building, with the fire spreading to nearby units.
An unidentified adult was pronounced dead on the scene. Two building residents and a firefighter who responded to the call were also injured. All three were sent to the hospital with what are believed to be non life-threatening injuries, according to Thompson.
The buildings next to the condo were also damaged, and the Red Cross is assisting residents impacted.
First-responders from five additional towns attended the call, including members from Bridgewater, Raynham, Lakeville, Wareham and Carver, in addition to crews from Middleborough.
The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
