2 National Guardsmen Killed in Shooting Near White House

WASHINGTON—Two National Guard members were killed in a shooting near the White House on Nov. 26.
At around 2:40 p.m. ET on Wednesday, the D.C. Metropolitan Police Department reported that a shooting incident occurred at the intersection of 17th and I Street, Northwest. By 3 p.m., the police department said it had taken a suspect into custody.
The condition of the two victims was not immediately clear.
“Please join me in praying for the two National Guardsmen who were just shot moments ago in Washington D.C.,” Homeland Security Secretary Kirsti Noem wrote in a post on X at around 3 p.m.
Noem said the Department of Homeland Security was working with local law enforcement officials investigating the incident.
