Senate shutdown vote possible Friday
The shutdown stalemate has made history, but there are signs the ice is melting.
Senate Majority Leader John Thune told fellow Republicans Thursday to be prepared to vote Friday on the bill to open the government, but it will be amended with a new expiration date in January as well as a negotiated package of three full-year spending bills, Politico is reporting.
President Donald Trump continues to urge Republicans to drop the 60-vote filibuster and use their majority to have “the greatest three years in History!” But Thune has not budged on that appeal, yet.
New Hampshire Sen. Jeanne Shaheen (D-N.H.) — who has helped lead the bipartisan talks — told reporters after a Democratic lunch she didn’t know if any deal was closer to passing. Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer called it a “very good, productive meeting,” Politico added.
Schumer remains a stick in the mud on health care costs and sticking it to the GOP.
