Patriots add running back, ex-starting safety to active roster

The Patriots boosted their running back and safety depth Saturday by elevating running back Terrell Jennings and safety Richie Grant from the practice squad to the active roster for Sunday’s game against the Browns.

Jennings has now been elevated three straight weeks. If the Patriots plan to use him again, they’ll need to sign him to the 53-man roster since practice squad players have a max three elevations.

This is Grant’s first elevation since being signed to the practice squad Oct. 15. A 2021 second-round pick, Grant was a starter for two seasons with the Falcons. He’s also spent time with the 49ers.

Jennings will back up Rhamondre Stevenson and TreVeyon Henderson. He’s also been used on kick returns.

Grant’s elevation is an indication that Kyle Dugger (questionable, knee) won’t be active Sunday. The Patriots should also have Jaylinn Hawkins, rookie Craig Woodson, Dell Pettus and Brenden Schooler available at safety.
