The Dacia Sandero reaches its highest market share in over a year.

For the 5th time in a row, the Spanish new car market registers a double-digit year-on-year gain. September sales are up 16.4% to 85,167 units, leading to a year-to-date tally up 14.8% to 854,658. With this September result, we are back above pre-pandemic levels as September 2019 totalled 81,746 units. As for the year-to-date volume, we however remain 11.5% below the level of the first 9 months of 2019. Electrified vehicle sales (BEV+PHEV) surge 97% year-on-year to 20,479 and 24% share and are up 98% year-to-date to 158,744 units and 18.6% share vs. 10.6% over the same period in 2024. Private sales are up 24.4% to 45,566 for the month and up 19.7% to 388,710 year-to-date, company sales gain 14.8% to 36,441 in September and are up 12.3% to 295,767 YTD whereas rental sales drop -33.8% to 3,160 this month and are up 8.6% to 170,181 YTD. 

In the brands ranking, Toyota (+22.5%) remains the faraway leader with 9.7% share vs. 8.6% so far this year. Renault (+8.8%) is back above Volkswagen (+13.5%), with Dacia (+31.8%) delivering the biggest gain in the Top 8. Seat (+13.5%), Hyundai (-7.3%), Kia (+3.2%) and Mercedes (+0.9%) follow, all trailing the market. MG (+91.3%) posts another fantastic month at #9, while Skoda (+20.5%) rounds out the Top 10 in solid fashion. Below, BYD (+291.8%) stands out and lodges a 2nd ever Top 15 finish at #15, breaking its volume record at 2,437. Tesla is up 3.4% to #13, Cupra up 21.9% to #20 and newcomer Ebro is up two spots on August to #22 with 1.4% share.

Model-wise, the Dacia Sandero (+30.2%) sails into the distance with a 7th consecutive win and 8th pole position so far this year, reaching 4% share in September vs. 3.4% YTD, its highest level since August 2024. The Tesla Model 3 (-11%) surges five spots on last month to #2 but ranks #39 year-to-date vs. #29 over the Full Year 2024. The Renault Clio (+9.3%) repeats at #3, a ranking it also holds year-to-date. The Toyota C-HR (+8.4%) is up six ranks on September to #4 with the Seat Ibiza (+35.2%) closing out the Top 5 like last month. The Toyota Corolla (+58.6%) soars YoY but drops four spots on last month to #6, distancing the Toyota Yaris (+42.2%) and MG ZS (+41%) both in outstanding shape. Below the Renault Captur (+16.1%) up 16 spots to #9, the VW T-Roc (+46.4%) is boosted by promotions on the outgoing generation to #10.
