Red Sox lineup: Veteran lefty called back up, Nathaniel Lowe to play DH

The Red Sox shook up their bullpen on Tuesday, calling up left-hander Brennan Bernardino ahead of the series finale against the Orioles.

To clear space on the active roster, the Red Sox also optioned left-hander Jovani Moran to Triple-A.

Bernardino has been one of Boston’s most heavily-used relievers this season, ranking fourth on the team with 47 appearances despite having been optioned to Triple-A on Aug. 1 to make room for newly acquired lefty Steven Matz. Bernardino has since only made four appearances with the WooSox and should be much better rested heading into the home stretch.

Prior to being optioned Bernardino had a 3.09 ERA over 43.2 innings. Moran appeared in two big league games following his promotion and allowed three earned runs in four innings.

After coming off the bench in his team debut, Nathaniel Lowe is in the Red Sox starting lineup for the first time as the designated hitter. Masataka Yoshida will start in left field, Jarren Duran will play center and Roman Anthony right.

Wilyer Abreu, Ceddanne Rafaela and Carlos Narvaez are all not in the lineup.
