Patriots third-round pick demoted in preseason game vs. Vikings

There’s been a change in the Patriots’ first-unit offensive line.

Veteran Ben Brown replaced rookie Jared Wilson at left guard in the Patriots’ starting lineup during Saturday’s preseason game against the Vikings. Brown was also the Patriots’ top left guard in Thursday’s joint practice with the Vikings, a session in which Wilson was limited.

Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel told the WBZ broadcast crew — Scott Zolak, Devin McCourty and Jason McCourty — that the team was still trying to find it’s best five offensive linemen.

In Saturday’s preseason game, rookie Will Campbell started at left tackle with Brown at left guard, Garrett Bradbury at center, Mike Onwenu at right guard and rookie Marcus Bryant at right tackle. Veteran Morgan Moses is expected to be the team’s top right tackle during the regular season.

Wilson, a third-round pick, was an early training camp standout but had some struggles in the Patriots’ preseason opener against the Commanders.
