Uruguay July 2025: BYD storms into pole position
BYD holds 12.6% of the Uruguayan market in July.
Excellent results for the Uruguayan new light vehicle market, up 21.4% to 5,908 units. This brings the year-to-date tally up 9.8% to 36,678. We have a big event atop the charts this month: Chinese superstar BYD (+271.5%) improves its sales 4-fold year-on-year and snaps the brands pole position for the very first time with a tremendous (and record) 12.6% share. It overtakes YTD leader Fiat (+7.6%) at 12% of the market. This is the first time a Chinese carmaker is the outright best-seller in the country, and it helps Chinese manufacturers up 163.8% year-on-year to 30.7% market share vs. 14.1% a year ago. Suzuki (+66%) and Volkswagen (+41.9%) also shine below, while Dongfeng (+4133.3%), Omoda (+1933.3%), Chery (+183.8%) and Jetour (+63%) all shoot up.
Previous month: Uruguay June 2025: Renault (+129.2%), Fiat (+74.1%) highlight negative market
One year ago: Uruguay July 2024: Fiat (+74.1%) catches up on Chevrolet (-26.4%)
