FOXBORO — The Patriots are placing undrafted rookie running back Lan Larison on injured reserve, per a source.

Larison suffered an injury in Friday night’s preseason opener against the Commanders. After scoring on a 2-yard touchdown run, Larison departed for the locker room. He was spotted with a walking boot later in the locker room after the game.

The UC Davis product had a chance to earn a roster spot as a fourth running back behind Rhamondre Stevenson, Antonio Gibson and fellow rookie TreVeyon Henderson. He displayed pass-catching and between-the-tackles rushing upside during the first two weeks of training camp. The rookie’s season is over unless the Patriots release him with an injury settlement.

Larison’s roster spot was taken by free-agent running back Deneric Prince, who has spent time with the Chiefs, Dolphins and the UFL’s Memphis Showboats. He’s a speedy back who played college ball at Texas A&M and Tulsa before going undrafted in 2023.

Prince joins Stevenson, Gibson, Henderson, JaMycal Hasty and Terrell Jennings on the 90-man roster.
