DA timeline suggests crime spree ahead of garbage truck crash in Everett

The man authorities say ended a wild spree of crime by crashing a carjacked garbage truck into the guard rail of an Everett bridge after being shot and tased by police will face at least nine charges.

Admilson Vizcaino, 33, of Malden, will be charged with four counts of attempted armed carjacking, two counts of armed carjacking, assault by means of a dangerous weapon, armed assault to rob, and leaving the scene of a collision resulting in property damage. The Middlesex District Attorney’s office says even more charges are possible.

Vizcaino, who the Middlesex DA’s office says is in critical condition at a local hospital, will be arraigned on the charges at a later, undetermined date.

Vizcaino’s alleged criminal actions created quite the stir in Everett, where the major police response forced the closure of several roadways and caused traffic congestion in multiple communities in the area for hours afterward.

But new investigative details show that his short alleged joyride in a Republic Services garbage truck that ended with a crash into the guardrail of the Alford Street Bridge — first hinted at by the Everett Police Department in a Facebook post shortly before 4 p.m. Thursday — was merely a finale in an hours-long ordeal that spanned multiple municipalities.

It all started at 12:45 p.m. Thursday, according to authorities, when Medford police responded to a 911 call for a person “acting erratically” at a local gas station, who the Middlesex DA says is Vizcaino. But authorities say Vizcaino was no longer there when they arrived, and so the police issued a BOLO alert, for other police agencies to “be on the lookout” for Vizcaino and the black Chevrolet SUV he was driving.

Fifteen minutes later, Stoneham Police officers allegedly tried to pull over the vehicle, but it didn’t stop. An hour later, the Billerica police became involved when they received a report of shoplifting at a 7/11 by a man in the suspect vehicle.

Then, at around 3:15 p.m., a member of Vizcaino’s family told Malden police that he was at a residence there. When police arrived, authorities say, Vizcaino fled the scene in his black Chevrolet. Police pursued until Vizcaino crossed into Everett.

Everett police, who called the Massachusetts State Police in for assistance, pursued as Vizcaino allegedly slammed his vehicle into other vehicles along Broadway near the Encore Boston Harbor casino and Mystic Street, eventually disabling his own vehicle.

The Middlesex DA’s office said he then “tumbled from his vehicle and attempted to carjack multiple nearby vehicles while wielding a knife.” MSP troopers and Everett officers surrounded Vizcaino, who allegedly swung his knife at them. Troopers then fired a taser at him, according to the Middlesex DA. And yet he continued on foot, eventually able to successfully carjack a Republic Services garbage truck, although police shot at him in the process.

Authorities say he drove the garbage truck for about a half mile before the bridge crash, after which he was arrested.

The Middlesex DA’s office also notes that police found four canisters of gasoline in Vizcaino’s Chevrolet, which he had allegedly carried since his stop at the 7/11 in Billerica.
