Judge orders Milford teen arrested by ICE released on bond
A Milford high school student arrested by ICE officers looking for his father has been ordered released on bond by an immigration judge during a hearing Thursday.
Judge Jenny Beverly at the federal immigration court in Chelmsford set bond at $2,000 for Marcelo Gomes da Silva during a hearing this afternoon.
Gomes da Silva was arrested on his way to volleyball practice Saturday by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents.
Authorities have said the agents were looking for the Milford High School teenager’s father, who owns the car Gomes da Silva was driving at the time and had parked in a friend’s driveway.
His immigration attorney, Robin Nice of the law firm McHaffey & Nice, said Gomes da Silva lawfully entered the U.S. when he was just 7-years-old, and has since developed deep roots in his community. He is active in his church, a member of his high school’s band and volleyball team, and is normally “surrounded by friends, teachers, and mentors who care deeply about him.”
Gomes da Silva appeared in court Thursday via zoom. He was being held in federal custody in Plymouth.
Nice told the judge Thursday that Gomes was “clean as a whistle.”
