Watch live: Karen Read retrial Day 14 – Trooper Bukhenik returns to stand
Massachusetts State Police Sgt. Yuiry Bukhenik is continuing his testimony today in the 14th day of Karen Read’s retrial. Watch the trial live in the player below.
Read, 45, of Mansfield, faces charges including second-degree murder in the death of John O’Keefe, a Boston Police officer who she had dated for roughly two years at the time of his death on Jan. 29, 2022. Prosecutors say that Read struck O’Keefe with her Lexus SUV sometime after midnight and left him to freeze and die on the front lawn of 34 Fairview Road in Canton.
Bukhenik, one of the principal investigators of the case, has already testified for two full days. On his first day he presented evidence that he says was found at the scene of O’Keefe’s death. On his second day he spent hours reading the complete text thread between Read and ATF agent Brian Higgins. In the texts, Read revealed that her relationship with O’Keefe was not doing well and Higgins revealed himself to be a rival paramour for her affections.
The day began at 10 a.m. and immediately went into a sidebar conference. The jury was brought in 20 minutes later.
This is a developing story.
