Brayan Bello allows three-run home run, strikes out seven in rehab outing
HARTFORD, Conn. — Brayan Bello’s final tune-up before his expected return to the Red Sox rotation did not get off to a smooth start.
Pitching for Double-A Portland, Bello initially had trouble finding the plate and allowed a three-run home run in the bottom of the first inning during the Sea Dogs’ Wednesday night game against the Hartford Yard Goats.
Bello ultimately allowed four runs over 4.1 innings, allowing six hits and one walk while striking out seven. He also hit a batter and was charged with a pitch clock violation.
Though Bello settled down as his outing went along, he worked around traffic throughout and allowed the leadoff batter to reach in each of the first four innings. His fastball sat 94-96 mph and topped out at 98, and he threw 51 of his 71 pitches for strikes.
Bello finished the outing strong, striking out each of the last three batters he faced.
Liam Hendriks came on to start the bottom of the sixth for his third rehab outing and pitched a scoreless inning in what could be his final primer before returning to the Red Sox this weekend. Hendriks’ fastball sat 94-96 mph and he tallied a strikeout and a walk on 18 pitches.
Through three rehab appearances Hendriks has not allowed a run in three innings of work.
Hendriks was also credited by the Yard Goats for going above and beyond in treating his minor league teammates, renting a food truck for not only for the Sea Dogs, but also all of the Yard Goats players and everybody who works at Dunkin’ Park.
Liam Hendriks, @RedSox pitcher on rehab tonight for Portland, rented a food truck for his whole team. And all of the Yard Goats. And everyone who works at Dunkin’ Park. Pretty classy. pic.twitter.com/QrIzTEQy96
