ICE Boston arrests illegal immigrant convicted of battery on a family member
Federal immigration agents arrested a Guatemalan national in the country illegally who has previously been convicted multiple times in Massachusetts of assault and battery on a family member.
Wilber Chinic-Villagran, 27, was convicted in Framingham District Court on Oct. 23, 2024, on two counts of assault and battery on a family/houshold member, intimidation, and violating the Abuse Prevention Act, for which he was sentenced to 18 months in prison — but all but four of those months were suspended.
He was subsequently convicted two months later on an addition assault and battery on a family member charge, with a similarly shortened sentence.
“Wilber Chinic-Villagran illegally came to the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and committed some horrendous crimes,” Patricia Hyde, the director of the Boston field office of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO).
“We simply will not tolerate such a threat to the residents of our Massachusetts communities. ICE Boston will continue to prioritize public safety by arresting and removing egregious alien offenders from New England,” Hyde continued.
Chinic was first arrested by the U.S. Border Patrol in July 2020 after he illegally entered the U.S. near Laredo Texas. He was returned to Mexico. He then reentered at an unknown date and location.
ICE lodged an immigration detainer against Chinic when he was arrested in Middlesex County, according to ICE. This detainer was not honored by the Framingham District Court, according to ICE.
