BOYS BASKETBALL

The coaching fraternity has a new member of the 400-win club.

Catholic Memorial’s Denis Tobin earned his 400th win Sunday afternoon when his Knights defeated Lynn English 78-60 in the Comcast Tournament at Emmanuel College. The head coach at Catholic Memorial since the 2001-2002 season, Tobin has guided the Knights to six sectional and two state titles, while qualifying for the postseason every season under his watch.

Alex Fleming scored 15 points to crack the 1,000-point mark as Lynnfield (14-5) coasted to an 83-51 win over Lowell Catholic in the Spartan Classic. Grant Neal tallied a team-high 20 points for the Pioneers, while Madux Iovanelli added 18. …Brendan Dooley led a quartet of double-figure scorers with 18 points as Lincoln-Sudbury rolled to a 75-35 win over Chelsea. … Irvin Zapata scored 18 points as Georgetown knocked off Brookline, 53-50. … Matt Gaffney had 19 points as Malden Catholic rolled to a 68-42 win over Greater Lawrence. … Andy Bastista scored 18 points as Lynn Tech (11-8) handled Woburn, 73-50.

Nate Creedon scored 20 points, grabbed four rebounds and dished out four assists as Mansfield handled BC High 79-52 in a nonleague contest.

Nick Deleon finished with 26 points and Charlie Amero added 16 as Gloucester advanced to the finals of the Larry McIntire IAABP Board 130 tournament with a 58-40 win over Marblehead.

Chris Soillis scored 25 points as Concord-Carlisle clinched a tourney berth with a 72-53 win over Medford in the Patriot Classic.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Peabody stayed alive with its quest for a tournament bid with a 43-38  win over Reading in the first round of the Larry McIntire IAABO Board 30 tournament. Avery Bettencourt scored 12 points, Maia Davis added 11, while Ally Bettencourt and Sophia Coburn combined for 21 rebounds. … Samia Lalikos scored 18 points to lead all scorers as Masconomet (17-2) defeated North Reading, 55-40. Ava Allen had 10 for the Chieftains, while Sydney Rogers led the Scarlet Knights (8-11) with 17 points.

Addy Andrews scored 22 points as Cohasset defeated Newton South 57-44 at the Spartan Classic in Lynn. … Emma Jolley had a double-double with 11 points and 18 rebounds as Fontbonne defeated Bedford, 52-47. … Gloria Doyle led the way with 19 points as Lexington defeated Acton-Boxboro, 55-50. … Kiera Linehan tallied 21 points as Andover defeated Malden Catholic, 54-32.

In the consolation bracket of the Comcast Board 27 tournament, Abby Broderick scored 15 points as Medfield defeated Wellesley, 55-15. … Mckenna Morrison scored 13 points as Woburn (19-1) defeated Norwood, 48-33.

Emily Pilcher scored 21 points as Tewksbury (10-8) qualified for the state tournament with a 48-32 win over Shepherd Hill at the Westborough Tournament.

Mackenzie Kaiser and Charlotte Hurley both notched career-highs, 24 and 20 points, respectively, as Westwood defeated Middleboro 67-57 at the Riley Winter Classic.

BOYS HOCKEY

Walter Dzavik, Conal Mulkerrin and Brendan McCarthy scored as Hingham defeated Archbishop Williams 3-1 in the semifinals of the Buddy Ferreira Classic. … Chris Brennick and Nolan O’Sullivan scored as BC High edged Arlington Catholic, 2-1.

Aidan Shaughnessy had a goal and an assist as Reading defeated Falmouth 4-2 in the consolation bracket of the Buddy Ferreira Classic.

Arlington captured the Middlesex Liberty title with a 4-3 win over Woburn as JP Messuri scored twice and Shawn Patterson added a goal and an assist.

Owen Considine registered a hat trick as Lynnfield defeated Martha’s Vineyard 5-1 in a nonleague contest.

GIRLS HOCKEY

In the opening round of the Newburyport Classic, Ava Moltenbrey and Natalia Elson each had two goals and an assist as Pope Francis defeated Newburyport, 5-2.
