Skoda Kylaq

The Indian wholesales market reaches a new all-time high volume in January, passing the 400,000 unit milestone for the first time at 401,538 sales (+2.1%). The previous high was reached just last October at 397,947. Brand leader Maruti Suzuki (+4.1%) also hits a new all time market at just under 174,000 units, but strangely is the only carmaker to break its volume record this month. At 43.2% share, Maruti Suzuki manages its highest level since August 2023 (43.3%). Hyundai (-5.4%) and Tata (-10.4%) struggle while Mahindra (+17.6%) is in great shape at #3 vs. #4 over the Full Year 2024. Skoda (+73.9%), MG (+16.5%) and Volkswagen (+2.4%) also secure positive results but Citroen (-27.7%), Renault (-27.3%), Jeep (-21.7%) and Nissan (-16%) are all hit hard.

Kia Syros

The Maruti Suzuki Wagon R (+35.6%) sports its first monthly win since February 2024 and 2nd highest volume below March 2022. It is followed by the Maruti Suzuki Baleno (+1.7%) up 12 spots on December to #2. At #3, the Hyundai Creta (+40.2%) reaches a new monthly record just above 18,500 sales. The Maruti Suzuki Swift (+11.1%) and Tata Punch (-9.7%) complete the Top 5. The Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara (+17.5%) smashes its volume record by over 2,000 units and ranks #6 vs. #18 in December, a new ranking record beating its previous best of #10 reached in June 2023 and October 2024. The Maruti Suzuki Fronx (+11.4%) and Mahindra Scorpio (+8%) also shine below. We have two important launches this month: the Kia Syros at #25 with over 5,500 wholesales and the Skoda Kylaq at a more modest #56, even though it received 10,000 bookings within 10 days of its launch last December.
