South metro choir starts new season, accepts new members
The South Metro Chorale, a concert choir, is kicking off its 10th season and is accepting new members.
The choir provides a broad spectrum of experiences and repertoire, including accompanied and a cappella music of the masters, American folk music and African-American spirituals. Jazz, Broadway, pop, gospel and blue grass arrangements are also performed at its annual “Cabaret” show.
Concerts are presented in various auditoriums and churches in the area. Three concert tours of Europe, including two international festivals, have been a part of the “SMC” experience. The director of the Chorale is Loren Squires.
The South Metro Chorale will be performing the “Mozart’s Requiem” accompanied by a chamber orchestra during the spring season. An “A Cappella Christmas” will be presented in December and its annual “Cabaret” on the first weekend in March. The “Chorale” is planning a European Concert Tour for the summer of 2008. The tour will include Northern Italy and Austria.
Auditions for membership will be held from Wednesday through Friday this week, but can be scheduled through Sept. 11 by calling (952) 253-9027 or (612) 309-1732. All talented singers will be accepted. Rehearsals are on Tuesday evenings at 7 p.m. and are held at Hidden Oaks Middle School in Prior Lake.
