Sexe leads Lakers at first conference tourney
The Prior Lake girls golf team wasn’t at the top of its game in its first South Suburban Conference tournament April 18.
But the Lakers still were good enough to finish tied for second, which shows the kind of potential the team has this spring.
The Lakers had a team score of 347 at Dwan Golf Course in Bloomington. Eastview won the title (326), while Eagan also scored 347. The Wildcats won the tiebreaker over the Lakers to get the second-place points for the overall conference standings due to a better fifth score. Apple Valley ended up fourth (349).
“We didn’t have our ‘A’ game and we still did well, which has me really excited to see where the rest of the season goes from here,” said Lakers coach Corey Carney.
Sophomore Kenzie Sexe led the Lakers, shooting 81 to finish tied for third. She’s had a strong start to the season, tying for third at Faribault Invitational April 14 shooting 78 at Faribault Golf Club.
Sexe was followed by sophomore Sam Kraft with 87, junior Alexa Everson with 89 and senior Brooke Foster with 90. Foster also shot 78 at the Faribault invite.
Senior Lindsey Lovik carded a 96 at Dwan, while junior Madi Bergeron had 111.
Prior Lake will host its own invite Tuesday, April 24 at The Wilds starting at 11:30 a.m. The next conference tourney is the next day Valleywood Golf Course at 10 a.m.
