Sample ways to lose weight at Fitness Jam

After two months of high-calorie holiday celebrations, many

people are looking for a healthy way to lose weight and get fit. On Saturday, Jan. 3 from 9 a.m. to noon, the Shakopee Community Center will provide some ideas at its fifth annual Fitness Jam (please note the date has been changed from what was listed in the Park and Recreation brochure).

During this free event, persons age 16 and older are invited to

learn more about the various fitness classes offered at the Community Center.

From 9 to 11 a.m., each fitness instructor will teach for 20 minutes. Participants can join in the workout at anytime or challenge themselves to the entire two hours. Courses covered will include: Pilates, Yoga, Core, Kickboxing, Step and much more. A special, free,

Silver Sneakers class also will be offered from 9 to 10 a.m. Additionally, staff will be available to discuss class offerings, personal training options, Community Center memberships and programs

offered by various health insurance companies.

Following the fitness sampler, there will be a Health and Wellness Reception from 11 a.m. until noon. Visitors can enjoy free food and be entered into drawings for door prizes. There also will be several

health-related organizations and vendors on site to share information and answer questions.

“Getting in shape doesn’t have to be chore. The Shakopee Community Center offers a wide variety of classes at various times throughout the day and week,” said Travis Karlen, Recreation Supervisor. “Members and non-members can see what they are missing at the Fitness Jam and gain valuable information to help them lead a healthier lifestyle.”

Although the event is free, pre-registration is required
