Lakers snap losing streak in section play-in game
The Prior Lake girls lacrosse team snapped its 12-game losing streak May 18.
And for their effort, the 16th-seeded Lakers get the No. 1 seed in Section 3.
Eighth-grader Ashley Norberg scored three goals and had two assists in Prior Lake’s 16-0 home win over 17th-seeded Hastings in the section’s play-in game.
Prior Lake (2-12) will play at Lakeville North (11-2) in the first round Monday, May 21 at 7 p.m. The Panthers beat the Lakers in the South Suburban Conference season 20-7.
Meanwhile, other first-round section games include: second-seeded Apple Valley (9-4) versus 15th-seeded Rochester Mayo (4-9), third-seeded Bloomington Jefferson (9-3) versus 14th-seeded Eagan (2-11), fourth-seeded Rosemount (8-5) versus 13th-seeded Rochester John Marshall/Lourdes (4-8), fifth-seeded Park (8-5) versus 12th-seeded Rochester Century (7-6), sixth-seeded Farmington (8-4) versus 11th-seeded Bloomington Kennedy (7-6), seventh-seeded Lakeville South (7-5) versus 10th-seeded Eastview (6-7) and eighth-seeded Burnsville (7-5) versus ninth-seeded Owatonna (9-3).
The section quarterfinals are May 23 with the semifinals set for May 29 and the title game May 31. The higher seed plays at home.
The Lakers went into the play-in game having not won since it season opener back in early April (14-4 over Rochester Mayo). Prior Lake struggled in conference play, finishing 0-9.
In beating winless Hastings (0-14), senior Aubrey Feldten and sophomore Amber Beauvais each scored three goals, while ninth-grader Taylor Jones had two goals and an assist.
Junior Leah Fossum also scored twice, while eighth-grader Ally Barian, senior Claire Clark and junior Althea Lien each had a goal and an assist.
Junior Sarah Beck also had an assist, while junior Hannah Gilbert made six saves in goal.
