Paynesville beat Eden Valley-Watkins in a 46-33 shootout to end the Eagles’ football season on Oct. 25 in Paynesville.

The Eagles entered the locker room at halftime with a 19-12 lead, but they couldn’t hang on, as they ceded 34 points to the high-powered Bulldog offense in the second half.

EV-W quarterback Reese Jansen threw for 210 yards and four touchdowns on 11-for-22 passing in the season-ending defeat.

Running back Deshaun James was Jansen’s preferred target: James caught three passes for 102 yards and two touchdowns while also running for 17 yards on eight carries.

The Eagles’ Greg Lux caught two touchdown passes from Jansen on his way to a three-catch, 35-yard game.

EV-W (5-5) entered the Section 5AA playoffs as the No. 4 seed, while the Bulldogs (9-0) were the top-ranked team in the section and received a first-round bye.
