18-year-old arrested for AT&T store robbery in Shakopee

An 18-year-old Oakdale man has been arrested for robbing an AT&T store on Thursday, Jan. 18 in Shakopee.

Abdikarim Mahamed Said, 18, 2810 Hillvale Trail, Oakdale was arrested Saturday and charged Monday with second-degree aggravated robbery, which carries a maximum of 15 years’ imprisonment and $30,000 fine.

Shakopee police were called to the AT&T Spring Mobile office at 8022 Old Carriage Court at 2:02 p.m. Thursday after a silent alarm was activated, according to Shakopee Police Capt. Craig Robson. While police were en route, the 911 dispatcher received a call from an employee saying they’d been robbed.

According to the charging documents, a man asked for an Apple Watch charger, and when an employee went to get one, the suspect went into the back room and took phones out of a safe, and with his left hand in his pocket, told an employee, “You don’t want to die over these phones.” The employee stepped out of the way and the man walked out of the store and left in a tan Toyota Camry, and nobody was injured, police said.

Shakopee Police Sgt. John Buetow said a crime alert about the robbery was sent out to other law enforcement agencies, including store surveillance photos, and Said was identified as the same suspect in thefts of cell phones in Oak Park and Cottage Grove. Said was arrested Saturday by Lakeville police during a DUI stop, Buetow said.
