READER LETTER: LDS Church wants to pray for City Council
Thank you for your many efforts to keep the public informed and involved in current events and news. One specific article made us aware of a need we hadn’t yet known.
On Sunday, Oct. 14, while reading the Leader, I was surprised to see in the article, “City Council needs prayers” that our church, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, was represented as not responding. That may lead a reader to believe that we had no interest. That is certainly contrary to our belief and desire of involvement.
In 1 Timothy 2:1-2 Paul wrote, “I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men; For kings, and for all that are in authority.”
We believe Paul’s admonition to pray for our leaders and our country. We believe we will develop loyalty to country and to the laws that govern us if we so pray. We know that God is mindful of us and prayer is the passport to spiritual power. We need that power in every aspect of our daily lives.
Unfortunately, we have received no communication or notice from the City Council on this need for prayers to be offered by our leaders or members. It must be that they don’t have the correct contact information. We have promptly reached out to them and are making sure they have the correct information of our local leaders and of our desire to be involved. We could sign up for the rest of the meetings if they are still in need.
We felt it important to share with you our thoughts and feelings so that the misunderstandings that could be created with our “No Response” might be cleared up.
Thank you again for the many ways you serve our community.
May God bless each of us in our efforts to serve and bless all humanity.
