Marvel Adell Wanous, 83, of Hutchinson passed away Friday, Feb. 9, 2018, at Harmony River Living Center in Hutchinson.
Memorial service was Thursday, Feb. 15, at Holy Family Catholic Church in Silver Lake. Interment was in Holy Family/St. Joseph’s Catholic Church Cemetery. Officiating was Father Paul Schumacher. Organist was Alice Nowak. Special music was provided by Holy Family Catholic Choir. Musical selections were “Happy Trails,” “Amazing Grace,” “The Old Rugged Cross,” “ How Great Thou Art” and “In the Garden.” Readers were Sara Helget and Tanner Stearns. Honorary urn bearers were Tanner Stearns, Austin Stearns, Sara Helget, Laura Ulrich, Andy Hansen, Ally Pearson, Cody Gores, Colton Gores, Stefanie Ewert, Travis Wanous and Christopher Wanous.
Marvel Adell Wanous was born April, 19, 1934, in Greene, North Dakota. She was the daughter of Carl and Gladys (Bryant) Carlson. Marvel was baptized as an infant in Renville County, North Dakota, and was later confirmed in her faith as a youth at Faith Lutheran Church in Hutchinson, Minnesota. She received her education in Hutchinson and was a graduate of the Hutchinson High School Class of 1952.
On Dec. 31, 1958, Marvel was united in marriage to David Wanous at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Silver Lake. This marriage was blessed with four children, Craig, Debra, Sherrie and Angela. She was a wonderful mother and worked hard on the farm. Marvel also worked outside the home at several places such as Edco Sewing in Winsted, Hutchinson Technology Inc. and the Senior Job Program with Hutchinson School District 423, and really enjoyed working at West Elementary as a teacher’s aide. Marvel retired in 2014.
Marvel had many hobbies, but particularly enjoyed reading, puzzles, crocheting and always a good John Wayne or Clark Gable movie. She also enjoyed going out for breakfast to enjoy biscuits and gravy and caramel rolls. Marvel loved to attend family reunions, the county fair, state fair and playing a rousing game of bingo. She especially cherished time spent with her family, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and friends.
Marvel passed away Friday, Feb. 9, 2018, at Harmony River Living Center in Hutchinson, at the age of 83 years. She will be missed by many. Blessed be her memory.
Name is survived by her former spouse David Wanous of Cokato; children, Deb Stearns and her husband Corey of Hutchinson, Sherrie Neumann and her husband Marvin Jr. of Silver Lake, Angela Gores and her husband Dean Jr. of Hutchinson; daughter-in-law Janet Wanous of Hutchinson; grandchildren, Tanner Stearns, Austin Stearns, Sara Helget (Nick), Laura Ulrich (Thomas), Andy Hansen (Linsey), Ally Pearson (Nate), Cody Gores, Colton Gores, Stefanie Ewert (Dan), Travis Wanous (Amy) and Christopher Wanous (Amanda); great-grandchildren, Adalynn Pearson, Bennett Hansen, Hailey Ewert, Brody Wanous, Clayton Wanous and Aubrey Wanous; many nieces, nephews and many other relatives and friends.
Marvel was preceded in death by her parents Carl and Gladys Carlson; son Craig Wanous; daughter Mary Wanous (in infancy); brother Walt Carlson; sisters, Lillian Herzberg and Lucille Runke; brothers-in-law, Leslie Herzberg, Milan Runke and Merlyn Wanous; sister-in-law Geraldine Carlson; and nephews, Terry Runke and Bruce Carlson.
