Earlaine Joy Briggs, 80
Earlaine Joy Briggs, 80, of International Falls, Minn., died Sunday, Feb. 9, 2014, at Rainy Lake Medical Center.
She was born May 25, 1933, at Fort Frances, Ontario.
The former Earlaine Joy Carpenter was united in marriage to James Briggs on March 31, 1951.
She worked as a postal clerk and city clerk for South International Falls and retired as the deputy city water clerk for International Falls on June 30, 1998.
She was past president of the Veterans of Foreign Wars 2948 Auxiliary, past secretary and active member of the Holy Trinity Episcopal Church.
She loved her lake home and feeding all the wildlife there.
She also loved dancing, playing cards, cooking and baking for her large family.
She was also extremely proud of her son’s military service.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Louis and Elsie May Carpenter; sisters, Angela, Gloria and Cynthia; brother, Bernard; and infant daughter, Diana May.
Survivors include her husband, James Briggs; sons, Brian (Kallie), John (Teresa), Linden (Melanie) and Derek; daughters, Sandra McCormack-Handwerk and Michele (Jeff) Dahlin; 12 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and sisters, Barbara Coran and Brenda Haney, both of Fort Frances.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 12, at Green-Larsen Mortuary.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 13, at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church.
In memoriam donations would be preferred to the Community Cancer Walk, Borderland Humane Society or the VFW Ladies Auxiliary.
A luncheon will immediately follow funeral services at the VFW Club.
