Dragons’ bats go cold on the road
Litchfield softball continues its quest for conference win No. 1 after a doubleheader sweep at the hands of host Annandale Tuesday.
Annandale (4-1) held Litchfield (1-4) to five hits across 14 innings as Sarah Johnson went the distance in both games while recording 29 strikeouts. The Cardinals won game one 5-0 and 8-1 in the second.
Johnson was most dominant in game one allowing one hit and punching out 18 Dragon hitters.
An RBI base hit from No. 3 hitter Kristen Jones in the third inning of game two broke a 12-inning scoreless streak dating back to April 13 against Glencoe-Silver Lake.
No Litchfield hitter managed more than one hit in the doubleheader.
Litchfield pitcher Maddy Larson hung tough in game one allowing just two runs through five innings to the defending Section 5AA runner-ups before Annandale put the game away with three in the sixth.
Freshman Jocie Larson made her pitching debut with a scoreless seventh inning.
The Dragons next take on host Watertown-Mayer 10 a.m. Saturday in game one of a tournament.
