COLLEGE BRIEF: Grimsley, Bison roll into FCS football playoffs
Perennial FCS powerhouse North Dakota State is again having a stellar season. The Bison are ranked No. 4 in the nation with a 10-1 record, and are in the FCS playoffs for the eighth straight year.
2015 Hutchinson graduate Robbie Grimsley has been a key part in that, as the safety has started every game for the Bison again this season, one of only six defensive players to do so. He is the third leading tackler on the team (50) and is tied for second in interceptions (4).
He had a two interception game against Eastern Washington, and had a key 27-yard pick-six against Northern Iowa to tie the game before halftime.
He now has over 200 tackles and 11 interceptions in his career as a Bison, in only his junior year.
North Dakota State faces off against San Diego in the second round of the playoffs at 2:30 p.m. this Saturday. NDSU beat San Diego 45-7 in the second round of last year’s playoffs. The game can be seen nationally online on ESPN3.
With a win, the Bison would advance to play the winner of Wofford/Furman. NDSU had won five straight national championships before losing the James Madison in the semifinals last year. James Madison is on the opposite side of the bracket this year, setting up a potential rematch in the national championship game.
