Patriots announce 2025 coaching staff with 19 new assistants
The Patriots announced their 2025 coaching staff Wednesday.
Head coach Mike Vrabel has hired 19 new assistants, including offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels and defensive coordinator Terrell Williams. Special teams coordinator Jeremy Springer is among the seven holdovers from last season’s staff, with assistant offensive line coach Robert Kugler, defensive assistant Vinny DePalma and strength and conditioning coaches Deron Mayo and Brian McDonough. Former senior offensive assistant Ben McAdoo will now coach defense.
Former NFL head coach and offensive coordinator Doug Marrone has officially been named the Patriots’ new offensive line coach. Marrone coached the offensive line for the Saints (2022-23) and University of Alabama (2021) before joining the Boston College staff as an offensive analyst last year. Prior to his Alabama stop, Marrone served as the Jaguars’ head coach for four seasons and the Bills’ head coach for two and worked as the Saints’ offensive coordinator from 2006-08.
Marrone will work closely with McDaniels, new tight ends coach/passing game coordinator Thomas Brown and new receivers coach Todd Downing. Vrabel previously employed Downing in Tennessee, where he also coached alongside Williams, running backs coach Tony Dews and several new defensive assistants.
“The goal in filling out the 2025 Patriots coaching staff was to identify loyal, trustworthy coaches who are diverse in background, ideas, experiences and systems,” Vrabel said in a team statement. “We will be aligned in our vision to teach and develop our players with creativity, consistency and an attention to detail with the major goal of developing relationships that stretch beyond the field and meeting rooms.
“We are going to build a program that players, coaches and staff want to be a part of, protect and be proud of. There are so many great people in this building who help our players and the coaching staff on a daily basis. I am excited to work side by side with them to build this program.”
