Celtics draft pick selected for young player showcase at All-Star weekend

At least one other Celtic will join Jayson Tatum at NBA All-Star weekend in San Francisco.

Third-year guard JD Davison was one of seven G League players selected to compete in the 2025 Castrol Rising Stars game on Feb. 14.

Davison, a two-way player, has posted impressive numbers on the NBA’s farm circuit this season. Among players with at least 10 G League appearances, the 22-year-old Alabama product ranks sixth in scoring (24.7 points per game) and fifth in assists (7.8). He also is the Maine Celtics’ all-time leader in both categories.

NBA minutes have been scarce for Davison, who’s appeared in just 25 career games since Boston drafted him 53rd overall in 2022, so the Rising Stars game will be an opportunity to showcase his skills against some of the game’s most talented young players. Buried behind Derrick White, Jrue Holiday and Payton Pritchard on Boston’s backcourt depth chart, Davison has seen action in just five games for the Celtics this season, playing only in garbage time and totaling six points, one assist and six turnovers.

The annual exhibition also will feature 10 rookies and 11 second-year players, including 2024 NBA Rookie of the Year Victor Wembanyama and 2025 No. 1 overall pick Zaccharie Risacher. The winning squad will participate in a brand-new tournament against three eight-player teams of NBA All-Stars.

Tatum was announced as an Eastern Conference starter last week, earning his sixth consecutive All-Star nod. The All-Star reserves — a group likely to include teammate Jaylen Brown — will be announced this Thursday.
