FOXBORO — Head coach Jerod Mayo said Wednesday that he was unaffected by “fire Mayo” chants from the Patriots fanbase during Saturday’s loss to the Chargers.

The chants seemingly came from a smaller group of fans, but they were audible in the press box, and Mayo said he heard them when addressing reporters Saturday night.

“For me, it’s all about the guys in the locker room,” Mayo said. “Look, (fans are) disappointed in the record. I understand that. Look, even with you guys in the media, I understand what your job is, and that’s OK. My thing is it’s always about the team, and it’s about winning football games.”

The boos and chants could get even louder this Sunday against the Bills, since the floodgates are already open. Questions about Mayo’s job security have picked up since Saturday’s loss.

A loss to the Bills backups on Sunday in Gillette Stadium could be disastrous for Mayo.

He was asked if he’s concerned or that he could be coaching his last game on Sunday.

“For me, it’s all about just focusing on the Bills trying to win that game,” Mayo said.
