The Handel and Haydn Society has had some time to perfect “Messiah.” This year will be H+H’s 171st consecutive year of doing Handel’s masterwork. If you only know the “Hallelujah” chorus, no problem, that’s a great start. The Holiday Pops, Dec. 5 – 24, Symphony Hall

Keith Lockhart hasn’t been doing the Holiday Pops for 171 years, but his orchestra is so merry and bright that it feels like they have had a century to perfect this annual tradition. That tradition always includes “Twas the Night Before Christmas,” “The Twelve Days of Christmas,” “Sleigh Ride,” and other faves. But Lockhart makes it a habit to bring new elements to the party each year.
