Red Sox finalize coaching staff for 2025, announce expanded role for Jason Varitek
The Red Sox have officially announced their major league coaching staff for 2025, confirming the addition of four newcomers along with an expanded role for longtime stalwart Jason Varitek.
Varitek will retain his title of game planning coordinator, but will transition from the club’s catching coach to become Boston’s run prevention coach. Parker Guinn, who was recently hired away from the New York Yankees, will take over as catching instructor and bullpen catcher, and former Worcester Red Sox bench coach Jose Flores will be the club’s new first base coach.
Previously announced hires Dillon Lawson (assistant hitting coach) and Chris Holt (bullpen coach) were also officially confirmed to the staff.
Guinn, 31, spent the past two seasons with the Yankees as a manager in the Dominican Summer League. He has also coached for numerous college programs after playing for the University of Washington and Southern Illinois Edwardsville.
Flores, 53, has spent the past three seasons as the WooSox bench coach after previously serving as the Philadelphia Phillies first base coach (2018) and the Baltimore Orioles third base coach (2019-20). The Puerto Rican native has been coaching in various roles since 2001, including with Team Puerto Rico in the 2013 World Baseball Classic.
Alex Cora (manager), Ramon Vazquez (bench coach), Andrew Bailey (pitching coach), Pete Fatse (hitting coach), Ben Rosenthal (assistant hitting coach), Kyle Hudson (third base coach/outfield instructor) and Charlie Madden (bullpen catcher) will all retain their existing roles into 2025, the club announced.
