Editorial: Seth Moulton speaks the truth!
As Democrats are stuck in a loop of self-loathing, U.S. Rep. Seth Moulton is going right at the source of the party’s demise.
While the rest of us worry about the grocery bill, progressive Democrats push Drag Queen Story Hour and the local library. That’s a problem, the Salem pol says. Moulton is under attack for suggesting boys and transgender athletes have no place in girls’ sports and his party should pivot to real problems.
The economy, immigration, abortion, health care, education, and foreign policy were the top issues in this year’s election, according to multiple polls.
Pew Research reported the economy was the leader on that list — with 81% of registered voters saying the issue alone would drive their vote.
That is exactly why President-elect Donald Trump is returning to the Oval Office. He won the popular vote 74.84 million to Kamala Harris’s 71.25 million. He also blew by her in the Electoral College 312 to 226.
Yet, The Squad and liberal elites would rather drill down to micro-aggressions as the party’s true north. There’s no question that what makes America great is our diversity, but a vast majority accept that and get on with life.
What we don’t accept is women being pushed aside for political points.
We don’t accept that not speaking out against it is un-American.
Just ask Moulton, who said: “I mean, here we are accusing Republicans of being weird, and we’re the ones who are suddenly requiring people to put pronouns in their email signatures.
“I mean, that’s kind of weird, to be honest,” he added. “You know, we went through the whole gay rights movement. We went through the whole Civil Rights Movement. We never had to say, you know, ‘Seth Moulton: Straight’ or ‘Seth Moulton: White.’ And all of a sudden, we have to change all our values to meet the needs or demands of one very small minority group.”
The wars in Ukraine and Gaza; the price of just about everything; the out-of-reach cost of housing; taxes on the middle class; the porous borders; and hurricanes and wildfires must take precedence over transgender players. It’s political insanity.
Moulton said so and has failed the “Democratic Party purity test.” His words and he’s right.
The fact that he isn’t backing down is amazing. That’s rare in Democratic circles. President Joe Biden has backtracked so often you can’t trust anything he says.
Harris changed her stance on guns and transgender surgery for prisoners so fast it left the electorate spinning.
Moulton, who was a U.S. Marine, appears to understand that voters appreciate conviction.
Stand on your own two feet and fight for what you believe in. That’s the message Moulton is giving.
We all do that every day at work and in life. We have to make difficult choices and do what’s best for our families. That can mean cutting out expensive items at the store or sending a child to a state school instead of a private one.
The courage of conviction is what this election was about — 74.84 million voters did just that.
